Furnace Replacement
Sometimes a repair is not sufficient to fix your furnace. Sometimes a new furnace is the most cost-effective and energy-efficient way to go. We will always be honest with you about a possible furnace replacement. We value our time and your money––we don’t want to perform repairs or service on an appliance that is in need of replacement.
If you do need a furnace replacement, we know how overwhelming it can be. Here are some of the frequently asked questions about furnaces that we get from some of our Chesapeake, VA residents:
What Are The Different Types Of Furnaces?
Single Stage: A single-stage furnace has only one stage of operation. It can either be turned on or turned off.
Two Stage: A two-stage furnace has two settings––full and half speed. This is a more efficient way to heat and provides for better comfort, because it can move the air at a slower pace.
Variable Stage or Modulating: A variable-stage or modulating furnace modulates the speed and heat output based on the temperature outside and the desired comfort level. This furnace only works as much as you need it, making this type the most energy-efficient type of furnace.
What Is AFUE?
AFUE, or Annualized Fuel Utilization Efficiency, is a measure of furnace-heating efficiency. The higher the AFUE, the more efficient the furnace.
What Size Furnace Do I Need?
We can calculate the correct size furnace for your home. The number of BTUs, or British Thermal Units, needed to heat your home is dependent on a number of variables. Contrary to what you might think, a bigger furnace may not necessarily mean more heating power for your home. Call us at Air Handlers Heating & Cooling, and we can set up an appointment to calculate the furnace size you might need.
How Much Money Can a New Furnace Save You?
Our AFUE energy savings calculator can help determine how much you could save on your utility bills. Simply enter your current unit's AFUE value and compare it to a newer, more efficient system. You can even customize it to better match your home's system for a more accurate calculation.

Gas Furnace Repair in Norfolk, VA 23510
“My Technicians were Marty, Glen, Nate. My need/problem was vents shifting from the heater, detaching, creating a very dangerous situation. The weather was turning cold and with the heater in that condition, if I had turned it on there was the probability of the gases filling the house causing a carbon monoxide breathing environment and/or possible explosion. The heater problem was realized by happenstance when plumbers came out to do a kitchen drain repair and I asked them since they were there could they check if I had any other plumbing situation that looked like it needed to be done. That's when they found the heater vents. Like I said, it was happenstance. It was dangerous, it needed to be repaired right away, so I was referred to Airhandlers. Airhandlers was contacted, heard the situation and they arrived at my home with no delay. The initial Technician went upstairs (oh, my heater is in the attic), and checked to see what was going on. He confirmed that it was the vents on the heater and explained how it could have happened. He didn't stop there, he went back upstairs and would not leave until he got things attached so the danger was no longer there and I could turn on the heater. It was a temporary fix but I was safe. He was so genuinely concerned about my safety and about his professional service. I guess right here I could stop and say he was a God send, a life saver. That was on a Friday late afternoon. Airhandlers wasn't finished there. The next week, the other two Technicians came out to permanently secure the vents and any other situations that had been found that denoted repairs. Wouldn't you know it, Airhandlers just kept getting better. The Techs were unquestionably great. They looked forward to the opportunity to perform their specialty and expertise. They were extremely respectful and totally professional. It was like watching a relay from the Technician on Friday to the Technicians that week working as a team and bringing home the GOLD! When I think about it, and the danger I was unknowing in, and Airhandlers coming to my rescue I am beyond grateful. Excellent service, repairs, pricing, quality materials, professional genuine great Technicians. Yep, Airhandlers – "the real deal",”
